Somebody booked a cabin on a river and told the person they live with: no phones, no television, the whole weekend.

That's the entire post. A man wrote it on a forum like it was nothing, one line among a hundred other lines that week. They read. They did yoga. They played checkers. That's it. Nobody got sick. Nobody's job caught fire.

You read that and some part of you filed it under can't. Not for me. Different life, different job, different house. That's the story that keeps you from noticing what actually happened in his.

He didn't wait for permission from his week. He named the terms out loud, to one other person, ahead of time, and then he held them. That's the whole mechanism. Not a retreat. Not a plan with a name and a budget. Two sentences, said before Friday, kept through Sunday.

You've had weekends you meant to protect the same way and didn't say a word about it to anyone, so nothing protected them. The phone came anyway because you never told it not to. The job came anyway because you never told anyone it wasn't invited.

Nobody is going to guess the terms for you. You have to say them, to one person, before the weekend starts, or the weekend just happens to you the way the last forty did.

The one thing:

Pick one hour this weekend and name it out loud to somebody, before Friday ends. Say what it doesn't include.

Then notice whether you kept the terms, or forgot you'd set any.

P.S. I finished my 30-day Ash Journal run on July 30. In public, one page a day, no edits, all thirty.

Five minutes. One prompt. One line of ash. The first seven days are free: truevitalyou.com/journal

P.P.S. Know a guy who'd tell you he's fine? Forward him this one.
