You keep checking whether the good thing arrived.

Peace. Motivation. Feeling like yourself again. Every few weeks you take inventory, and the shelf where the good thing should be is still empty, and you file the whole stretch under no progress.

You're watching the wrong gate.

Ask anyone who actually came back from a long stretch of running on empty what changed first. They never name a thing that arrived. They name a thing that went missing. The Sunday night math stopped running. The jaw wasn't clenched at the red light. The tally that used to play in the shower just wasn't on.

Nothing shows up to be photographed. Nothing announces itself. One day you reach for the familiar weight, out of habit, and your hand closes on air.

That's what it looks like. Not a sunrise. An absence.

And because nobody keeps records of what's missing, whole months of coming back get filed as nothing happening. You've maybe done it with years.

The one thing:

Stop asking what's better. Ask what's been quiet lately.

Something on that list went silent while you were watching the arrivals board. Find it.

P.S. I finished my 30-day Ash Journal run on July 30. In public, one page a day, no edits, all thirty.

Five minutes. One prompt. One line of ash. The first seven days are free: truevitalyou.com/journal
