Strip the roles for a second. The title, the parent, the fixer, the friend who always answers.

You were told there'd be someone clean underneath. One real you, waiting under the costumes, if you dug honestly enough.

So you dug. And you found a committee.

The one who wants to build something, and the one who wants to be left alone. The one who loves them, and the one who needs an hour of nobody. The believer and the doubter, in the same chair, in the same breath.

And because there were several, you decided you were fake. As if the real one would have arrived with a certificate.

Nobody tells you this part. They're all real. All of them, at once. A person is not a single note. A person is a chord, and some days the chord is dissonant, and dissonance is not a lie.

The contradiction was never the malfunction. Deciding you had to pick one, that was.

The one thing for the weekend:

Stop asking which one is real. Ask which one hasn't been fed lately.

Josh

Five minutes. One prompt. One line of ash. The first seven days are free: truevitalyou.com/journal
